Mesa needs to wake up, smell the future

Abstract:
What is happening to Mesa?

Back in the day it was the place to be with new developments like Dobson Ranch, a nearby golf course, Fiesta Mall and movie theatres like Fiesta 5 neighboring MCC.

Today it's a mess. Dobson Ranch has maintained her dignity but sources of entertainment and revenue have fallen apart due to lack of progressive thinking, or simply paying attention....

Oh I get it. The Mesa Chamber of Commerce, which failed to promote and bring development to Mesa, is still trying to absolve themselves of abandoning their responsibilty by pointing fingers at and wanting to impose a Mesa City Property tax on Mesa residents. The Chamber Dwellers need to get out of their cave.

On May 9, 2008, the AZ Republic reported Glendale lost money http://tiny.cc/U63JR on the Superbowl. The supposed $400 million in revenue, mentioned above, was not tax revenue.

Glendale spent $3.4M yet only received $1.2M in tax revenue. That's a $2.2M loss for Glendale.

I'm sure Mesa would have enjoyed another $2.2M loss in tax revenue claiming it a victory while making up another excuse to raise the city sales tax - further hindering it to raise sales tax revenue on big ticket items such as automobiles.

I am a downtown Mesa resident who doesn't feel negative about her town. Please don't compare an old city like Mesa to the new and expanding communities of Chandler and Gilbert. Those towns are developping as we speak. Neither should it be compared it to a university town like Tempe.

Mesa has a lot of older sections that will change in time. Dead zones such as the corner of Alma School and Southern are not the faults of the City. Landlords lost their tenants due to the economy, changing consumer desires, and lease rates that were based in greed.

People who are always complaining about Mesa not being interesting enough, or forward thinking, are ironically the same people who are complaining about the Mesa Arts Center and the upcoming Waveyard. What exactly do these negative Nellies want?
